  • Call for Papers – nmt 2020 (4. Jahresband von netzwerk mode textil e.V.)

    Das netzwerk mode textil e.V. ist die berufliche Vernetzung aller, die sich für die Kulturgeschichte und Kulturwissenschaft von Textilien, Bekleidung und Mode interessieren. Unser Netzwerk fördert die kulturwissenschaftliche Textil-, Kleider- und Modeforschung und verknüpft interdisziplinäre Projekte.

    Zur Förderung und Sichtbarmachung unseres Anliegens ist der dritte Band des Jahrbuchs
    nmt 2019 in Vorbereitung und wird im Juni 2019 herauskommen
    .
    2020 soll nun der vierte Band nmt 2020 erscheinen und wiederum die Aktivitäten der Vereinsmitglieder und die Vielfalt der Themen zum Ausdruck bringen. Inhalt der Publikation werden bis zu acht Beiträge aus den im Verein vertretenen Themengebieten sein. Wissenschaftliche bzw. theoretische Abhandlungen und Beiträge aus der Praxis, wie z.B. aus der Textilrestaurierung oder des Kostüm- und Modedesigns, sollen möglichst gleichberechtigt vertreten sein.

    Ihren Beitragsvorschlag mit Titel und Inhaltsangabe (max. 600 Zeichen) per E-Mail bis zum 14.07.2019 an m.breil@netzwerk-mode-textil.de

    Die ausgearbeiteten Beiträge sollen ca. 20.000 Zeichen inkl. Leerzeichen und etwa 10 Abbildungen enthalten. Alternativ können z.B. Bildstrecken zu Mode- oder Kostümdesign mit
    einer inhaltlichen Einführung / Interview abgedruckt werden. Eine ausführliche Handreichung zu den redaktionellen Anforderungen wird nach der Auswahl der Beiträge an die Autor*innen versandt. Die Auswahl der Beiträge wird von der Redaktion in Abstimmung mit dem Vorstand bis Mitte August 2019 getroffen.
    Als Einreichungsfrist für die ausgewählten Beiträge (die ausgearbeiteten Texte und Bilder) wurde der 1. Dezember 2019, 24:00 Uhr festgelegt. Für die Bilder muss eine offizielle Abdruckgenehmigung der Urheber vorliegen. Die Autor*innen sind für Abklärung der Bildrechte selbst verantwortlich.
    Wir freuen uns auf zahlreiche interessante Vorschläge!!!

    Craft Research are seeking submissions for a special issue 'Real or Unreal - Crafting authenticity in the digital age'.
    For this special issue, we invite contributions about the authenticity of craft in the digital age and its meaning in an era of mass customisation. Current developments, including computer aided manufacturing and science-based ways of 'producing' craft artefacts, such as growing clothing from micro cultures, raise the need to question established understandings of making and of craft.
    The final date for submission of full papers for issue 7.1 is Monday 4 January 2016.

    The IHTP Seminar
    on Dress History lead by Maude Bass-Krueger and Sophie Kurkdjian, in collaboration with Adelheid Rasche (Lipperheidesche Kostümbibliothek, Kunstbibliothek, Berlin), is organizing two study days on Franco-German exchanges in fashion. Scheduled for early Summer and early Fall 2016, these study days will allow us to diversify our approach to fashion history and enrich our understanding of the “connected history” between these two countries by looking at their interwoven networks of people, ideas, and techniques.

  • Deadline for Proposals For New COSTUME COMMITTEE LOGO: 30 June 2015. The Costume Committee brings together the world’s museum professionals and costume historians to explore all aspects of presenting, preserving, researching and collecting apparel.
    The Officers of the Committee are seeking a new logo to represent the committee on the Web, in publications and other communications.
    A. We are seeking a graphic concept to express the identity of the committee
    B. The new logo must be integrated into our existing Web site hosted by ICOM.

    The Decision-making process and the award
    A. Officers of the Committee will review all submissions
    B. Three finalists will be chosen and submitted to the Committee members for their selection
    C. The winner will be announced in the December 2015 Newsletter with the publication of the winning design
    D. The Officers of the Committee reserve the right to modify the winning proposal
    E. The winning submission will receive the sum of 1000 Euros.

    This call for papers seeks contributions on the diverse influences and cultural construction of Brazilian fashion that surpasses any single notion of Brazilianness: its diverse styles, its postcolonial issues and avant-garde possibilities, its ethical concerns and challenges, its relationship to time and space. Integrating Brazilian fashion into a larger narrative on global trends, this volume will prioritize essays that detail history and analyze design creation and consumption, cultural references found in museum collections and archives, interactions with popular and visual culture, and projections for the future.

    The Textilsammlung Max Berk - Kurpfälzisches Museum is holding the 6th European Quilt Triennial, expected to be shown in Heidelberg from
    13 September 2015 to 10 January 2016 and subsequently at Kreismuseum Zons in Germany, Textilmuseum St. Gallen in Switzerland, and at the prestigious Festival of Quilts in Birmingham/UK in August 2016. Plans for further exhibitions in Germany and other countries are currently under discussion.
    Participants must be resident in Europe. The work must have a minimum size of 1 m² and max. 4 m², and not have been shown in public before autumn 2015. Garments are not accepted.     This conference organised by the "Appearances, bodies, and societies" Research Interest Group is open to researchers working on the history of fashion and appearances in Europe or elsewhere, from the end of the Middle Ages up to the present day. It will provide a multidisciplinary analysis of museum and university discourses, concepts, experiments and experiences, and of their intellectual origins and the institutional frameworks within which they are produced across diverse local and national contexts. The aim is to better understand the various ways of tackling the subject so as to highlight new areas of research convergence, thereby giving new impetus to international cooperation.

    Our Call for Papers would like to limit our focus to the usage of these materials as forms of protection and decoration for the body, according to these following approaches:
    - collection, transformation and commerce
    - implications in fashion
    - functions and usages in traditional societies
    - inspirations and imitations of the related materials in a great variety of textile-related techniques
    (including: weaving, fabric printing, knitting, etc.)
    - identification problems
    - specific problems involving preservation
    Our Call for Papers will exclude the usage of leather (or skin from where the fur and feathers were taken) as well as the usage of animal hair such as fibber (wool).
    The spatial-temporal purview of the submissions will be as large as possible, but the scientific committee will want, however, to balance the proposals.

    Call for papers: abstracts due: October 2011 The Textile Society of America invites paper proposals for its upcoming symposium, Textiles & Politics,to be held in Washington, D.CSeptember 19 to 22, 2012. We seek presentations from all textile-related disciplines and interdisciplinary areas, including but not limited to anthropology, art, art history, conservation, cultural geography, design, economics, ethnic studies, history, linguistics, marketing, mathematics, political science, and theater.     The Western Region Symposium offers an opportunity for established Members and potential New Members to present Oral Research Papers or Research-in Progress, reports on unpublished research, new creations and/or practical experience. Possible Topics Include: Designing costume for period theatrical or dance performances, films or television shows; Comparisons between recreated garments, or garments designed for performance, with actual historic garments; The importance of costume in the understanding of social, political & world history; How costumed docents enhance the understanding of museum collections & the visitor experience; Use of costume in non-costume exhibitions: an opportunity to provide context; Pursuit of the past: the impulse to collect historic dress; Using dress to create an historic character or personage for reenactment.
    Two types of Presentations are invited: 1. Oral Papers are appropriate for the presentation of new research findings, case studies and conclusions. Limited to 20 minutes for a presentation. All visuals must be in PowerPoint format. 2. Research in Progress Reports are appropriate for the presentation of ongoing research to elicit feedback from registrants for additional research sources and/or comments on methodology. Limited to 10 minutes for presentation. All visuals must be in PowerPoint format.
