out of the Frame) Precious embroidered
clothes from the late eighteenth century. The
centrepiece of the exhibition is a delicately
embroidered French court dress from the 1780s, a
so-called robe parée. It is one of the
outstanding objects in the Lillian Williams
costume collection, which was acquired by the Bayerisches
Nationalmuseum in 1996.

Seit einigen Jahren forschen wir, das
sind Dr. Schmuck und einige Studierende und
Absolventen des Seminars für Kulturanthropologie
des Textilen am FB 16 der TU Dortmund, an dem
amerikanischen Wegwerf-, bzw.
„Papiermoden-Phänomen“, das sich in
den Jahren zwischen 1966 und 1968 in den USA
großer Beliebtheit erfreute. Produziert wurden
sie aus diversen Faserverbundswerkstoffen und
rein synthetischen Faservliesen wie Tyvek,
Dura-Weve, Chixcel, Reemay und Kaycel, wurden
allerdings stets als „Paper Dress“
beworben.

Das Deutsche Textilmuseum Krefeld besitzt eine in
Europa einmalige Sammlung japanischer Gewänder,
die in der Technik des sogenannten Edo komon
gemustert sind. Die Kleidungsstücke für Damen
und Herren stammen aus dem 18. und 19.
Jahrhundert und wurden in den letzten zehn Jahren
von der Stadt Krefeld angekauft sowie von
verschiedenen Spendern gestiftet. In der
Ausstellung wird erstmals ein Teil dieser
besonderen Gewänder der Öffentlichkeit
präsentiert.

Palazzo Madama offre al proprio pubblico un nuovo
percorso di conoscenza delle collezioni esponendo
nella sala Atelier una preziosa scelta di ricami.
Palazzo Madama espone oltre sessanta pezzi della
propria collezione, con una scelta che spazia dai
ricami sacri medievali agli abiti danzanti degli
anni Venti, vibranti di perline e conterie in
vetro. In
mostra anche un eccezionale prestito: un abito
baiadera di Gianfranco Ferré totalmente ricamato
in cristalli Swarovski e canottiglie.
Il manufatto più antico: un cappuccio di piviale
della fine del XIII – inizio XIV
secolo il più raffinato: la tovaglia
ricamata da Caterina Cantoni, tra 1590 e
1610, in cui il ricamo è perfettamente rifinito
su entrambi i lati del tessuto.
Il più sorprendente (divertente): un
frammento di stolone di piviale, opera
spagnola del 1590-1600, con allegri
teschi infiocchettati, che ricorda il piviale
raffigurato da El Greco in entierro
del conde de Orgaz, del 1586.
Il più complesso: un ricamo in lana
svizzero tedesco del 1580 ca, che unisce
la raffigurazione della parabola delle Vergini
sagge e delle vergini stolte alla
raffigurazione degli Evangelisti e delle
stagioni.

zwei bedeutenden Schenkungen präsentiert, den
Sammlungen von Hans-Jörk Wietfeldt und Horst
Eichler aus den 1960er und 1970er Jahren, die dem
GRASSI Museum für Völkerkunde zu Leipzig in den
letzten Jahren zugegangen sind. Ergänzt werden
diese Bestände durch Objekte der Staatlichen
Ethnographischen Sammlungen Sachsen in Leipzig
und Dresden, deren älteste um 1900 zu datieren
sind und weitere, aktuelle Stücke.

household. At the centre the young Charles of
Habsburg who was to be crowned Holy Roman Emperor

University to become the cornerstone of a new
museum on GW’s main campus in Foggy Bottom.
Exhibitions and programs will be presented to the
public in a custom-built, approximately
46,000-square-foot museum building located at G
and 21st Streets NW, bearing the names of both
The Textile Museum and the George Washington
University Museum. The new museum will include
gallery space for The Textile Museum, the Arthur
D. Jenkins Library for the Textile Arts, and The
Textile Museum Shop. In addition to the downtown
location, GW is constructing a collections and
conservation resource center on its Virginia
Science and Technology Campus in Loudoun County,
Virginia.
