• The CIETA Website  http://www.cieta-textiles.org/  has been active since December 2006. It offers a general presentation of CIETA and practical information on its activities, publications and technical courses.
• The Costume Committee of ICOM has been responsible for the compiling of the Vocabulary of basic terms for the cataloguing of costume in english, French and German: http://www.mda.org.uk/costume/vbt00e.htm
• New Chair of Textile History, starting autumn 2009:

• The dates of the Costume Colloquium II: Dress for Dance are confirmed for November 4-7, 2010. Following the great success of the first Costume Colloquium (held in Florence 6-9 November 2008 and attended by over 315 participants from 26 countries with 39 presentations on 8 themes), there will be a second symposium in November 2010 on the subject of Dress for Dance.   Loin du cliché de la coiffe alsacienne à grand nœud noir, cette manifestation est une invitation à découvrir la réalité de l’histoire des coiffes de fêtes d’Alsace à partir du XVIIIe siècle. Véritables objets de fascination, elles sont restées longtemps réservées aux élites avant de devenir peu à peu accessibles à une part grandissante de la société. Généralement de soie, d’or et d’argent, elles surprennent par leur élégance, par la beauté de leurs motifs et par les matières hautes en couleurs qui ont servi à les confectionner. En illustrant les premiers balbutiements de la démocratisation de la mode, ces coiffes souvent somptueuses font vibrer en chacun de nous la fibre qui, aujourd’hui encore, conditionne quotidiennement notre rapport esthétique et sensible au vêtement.

  Cotton was already traveling around the world from producer to consumer in colonial times; all that has changed today is the routes it follows. Thus in one common scenario, cotton fibers from Texas are sent to China to be processed, then wend their way to the fashion runways of Paris, and finally travel as old clothes to Africa, where they are worn as secondhand fashion.
  Hans Peter Jost has created a photographic portrait of cotton on his trips to India, China, Brazil, America, Uzbekistan, Mali, and Tanzania, documenting the lives and working conditions of cotton farmers and the cultivation, harvesting, processing, and marketing of cotton.
  Christina Kleineidam, who accompanied the photographer on his travels, describes what they saw and offers background information on the specific problems of the individual countries.
  The economist Pietra Rivoli explains the global realities of the cultivation and marketing of cotton in her foreword.
